my someday lp

My Someday is the debut LP from Blondfire, the brother/sister duo of Bruce and Erica Driscoll. Almost entirely self-produced and mixed, it's a song after song showcase of hooky, elegant, left-of-center, pop songs.

Erica's voice is airy, haunting, heartbreaking, and creates a wonderful sense of continuity over the span of the album. Over the course of the 12 songs, Blondfire, succeed at taking the listener on a journey through several different genres, with each track sounding remarkably original and unmistakably their own.

Beneath their catchy melodies and quirky production there is a charming element to their production that seems to be nonexistent on so many other modern albums. Some songs seem like period pieces or forgotten hits from a different era, while still seeming modern, fresh, and current.

It's evident from listening to My Someday that the Driscoll's love music and have fun doing what they do. Each song was recorded in a different location, some as bizarre as a London hotel room. The album shows what bands can be capable of once they throw out the rule book and just make the music in their hearts. This is a must listen release.  - JT

don't whisper lies ep

from all music guide:

Don't Whisper Lies from Blondfire is not only a stunning debut release, but an impressive set of songs from this brother/sister duo who are only in their early 20s. When Erica Driscoll isn't hypnotizing listeners with her Julee Cruise-like falsetto and playing keyboards on select tracks, younger brother Bruce Driscoll is strict with his various instrumentation. The two touch upon their Brazilian heritage for a flirty, dance-pop style of songs, and it's not too far from Chase's work with Ivy and the more sultry moments from the Cardigans and Saint Etienne. From the spellbinding synth beats and Erica's airy vocals on the EP's standout track "L-L-Love" to the softer pop of "Right Where I Want You," Blondfire don't lose grasp of their club-inspired backdrop.

Ivy bandmates Andy Chase and Adam Schlesinger assist in fleshing out Blondfire's dreamy synth pop sound on "Weightless." Schlesinger plays drums while Chase helps with production, mixing, and adds backing vocals to this stunning track, and again, fleshing out the pop art that is this five-song EP. Legendary conductor/arranger Zé Luis Oliveira is all class with his strings, flute and percussion arrangements on "Don't Whisper Lies," further complementing Bruce and Erica's vocal collaboration. Erica's girlishly charming vocals accentuate the album's overall innocence, for such a theme supports Blondfire's simplistic, yet structured approach the first time out. Blondfire's production work is so clear cut, "Don't Whisper Lies" speaks for itself.

itunes exclusive holiday ep

In november of 2005 Blondfire locked themselves up in their New York studio to record three new christmas songs.  In an effort to give the songs a classic christmas-standard production the duo committed to not using a single synth.  The result was the itunes exclusive holiday ep.  A bonus track, Baby Blue, was also included because of the similar, melancholy, Holiday direction.

live session ep (itunes exclusive)

Amidst their national tour with Ivy, Stars, and Robbers on High Street, Blondfire stopped off and recorded this EP live for iTunes on May 12, 2005 at Syklopps Studios Studios in San Fransisco, CA.  Engineered by sonic genius Gordon Brislawn.
